What's our project about?

We really have 2 aims – the project started because teachers in the Diploma of Sustainability were keen to get their units online. The 4 units were already being delivered in a blended way (using workshops & workbooks) but being able to use the online LMS platform (Gordon Online in the Training VC – Victorian Blackboard Vista installation) would give learners and teachers more flexibility and the option to offer the units totally online.

So the funding has allowed us to extend this original aim
– it is funding teachers’ time for training & upskilling in developing content & student activities in Gordon Online; time for support staff in Education Development to work with those teachers (both training & building in the LMS).
– The project is also funding the development of key content for use online. This is the type of content it would have been much more difficult to produce without the project funding. We have some great resources (for example Dr Ray Black – 1 of the key teachers in this area at the Gordon; guest presenters at the workshops) so plan to capture this expertise on some of the key sustainability issues.

How will we do it? For each unit, a key concept has been selected. We are using 2 main ways to present these key concepts:

1. Narrated presentations created as Flash SCORM modules (using Articulate). These are being produced for units VPB435 & VPB438. The first of these lectures is complete (we still need to develop the text transcription version of the audio track)

2. Flash Videos. These are being produced for units VPB436 & VPB437. Filming for both is scheduled for the next few weeks.

All 4 of these will be delivered to the Australian Flexible Learning Framework when we complete our project.
